Don’t expose your laptop or notebook computer
to rapid temperature fluctuations, such as leaving it in an automobile where the outdoor temperature falls below freezing. When bringing your laptop indoors during winter, don’t turn it on immediately. Instead, let it warm to room temperature first. This will avoid potential damage from condensation forming inside the compartment and the motherboard.
Spilled liquids that seep into your laptop will damage sensitive components on the motherboard of your laptop when power up. Some accidents cannot be avoided, so it’s best to keep all beverages away from your computer.
LCD Display Screen
Protect your LCD monitor. Make sure there are no small items such as a pencil or small ear-phones on the keyboard when you close the lid. Items left on your laptop keyboard when you close the lid will scratch, or worst crack your LCD screen
. Gently close the lid from the top-center edge of the bezel. Closing the lid using only one side of the LCD screen creates pressure on an individual hinge, which can cause it to bend and snap overtime. Avoid placing heavy materials, such as books, on top of your laptop and keyboard.
Leaving your laptop on soft surfaces blocks air flow and may cause it to overheat.
Air vents on the back of the laptop help air travel in and out the compartment.
If the vents become clogged, restricted air flow cause overheating. Have the unit cleaned by a by a computer professional
at least once a year to prevent overheating. An inefficient cooling system will eventually cause premature motherboard failure.
Since heat can destroy the motherboard, keep the laptop on a solid-flat surface. Avoid putting your laptop on carpet or a bed when turned on, which can restrict air flow.
Never lift your laptop by the LCD display screen
. Always hold and lift the laptop computer by its base. Lifting it by the screen portion alone may damage the LCD display or hinges that attach it to the base. Avoid placing direct pressure on the LCD screen.
Electronic devices have at least 4 different connectors that support other peripherals.
Always look at the symbols on the laptop carefully before inserting devices. Insert connectors into their slots carefully and at the correct angle. Place your hand directly on the AC plug when unplugging the power cord from a wall outlet. Care should also be taken when inserting and removing the AC adapter from your laptop DC power jack.
It’s a good idea to put a label with your name, e-mail, cell phone number or other contact details on your laptop, the power cord and any other removable parts.
